William Beckwith

Founder & Chief Counsel

William Beckwith brings 25 years of legal experience advancing wealth-building strategies, deploying emerging technologies, and advocating on behalf of start-ups to $89B companies.

His experience as an internet and telecom industry executive, advisor, advocate, litigator, and regulator spans government institutions (e.g., FCC), individuals, and Fortune 100 companies.

William has served as de facto general counsel for a range of start-up companies, ranging from formation and establishment of corporate structures to development of operating policies, tax and regulatory compliance, and HR / employment law practices.

Along the way, he founded a corporate compliance division; created a corporate knowledge center to monitor federal proceedings and document legal advice, decisions, and deadlines; and streamlined government accounting processes for agency reporting to Congress.

As a regulator, William led tiger teams in federal antitrust inquiries into multibillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions, including the $30B Comcast-NBCU transaction. He also represented a federal agency at the highest levels of government; advised senior federal leaders; and drafted national regulatory policies, administrative rules, and enforcement orders on satellite, media, broadcasting, and mobile wireless services.

As a contract and regulatory advocate, William negotiated with government officials on transaction approvals, established legal precedent related to state tax deductions, secured cost reductions on commercial leases, and represented companies in federal investigations (e.g. FCC, Department of Justice, Department of Commerce) on matters including cybersecurity, antitrust, and trade.

As a litigator, William served on the multi-year teams that represented companies in dispute, including a $289B federal civil RICO lawsuit brought by the U.S. Department of Justice against a CPG company, a $250M traffic-routing revenue dispute between two multibillion-dollar telecoms, and a $500M litigation between a creditor and failed subsidiary in recievership.

William also prevailed in contract litigation over subcontractor services fees provided to the World Bank, as well as a mandatory JAMS arbitration of a dispute over employment bonus, securing payment with interest and fees.

His wealth-building experience ranges from helping clients plan for the future of their families and businesses, including reduction of financial risk profiles to advising a corporation on a $500M debt instrument.
